Coin Art

This series arose from a project I’m doing called Double your Way to a Million.

After the first 5 were completed The Coins started to mean different things to different people… Some of the things people told me were encoded on the backs of the stretchers before they found their new homes. If you have one, you’ll get to see my language !

The first set was of the decimal currency past & present in New Zealand. From the now dead 1,2 & 5c coins through all the current coins and one collectable $10 coin.

After some (repeated !) questions in regard to when I was going to paint the pre-decimal coins, I painted the HalfPenny and the Penny…. I am 3/4 way through painting a 40 inch square threepence which is a challenge !

Also being painted at the moment are Australian Decimal coins and a set of 8 inch square coloured coins.
